Best Views:

  • Turton Tower: A historic manor house dating back to the 15th century, Turton Tower offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved architecture and beautiful surrounding gardens. Maintained by local volunteers, this is a textbook example of local history, by locals, for anyone.
  • Jumbles Reservoir: A favorite spot for walkers and nature lovers. The paths around the reservoir offer beautiful waterside views and are particularly stunning during sunrise and sunset.
  • Old Pillbox: A remnant from World War II, the old pillbox near Bromley Cross provides not only a historical point of interest but also a unique vantage point for viewing the surrounding landscape.
  • Views over Winter Hill: From various points around Bromley Cross, you can enjoy expansive views of Winter Hill, a prominent feature of the West Pennine Moors. The hill is especially striking when covered in snow during the winter months.
  • Entwistle Reservoir: Another nearby reservoir, Entwistle offers picturesque views and peaceful walking trails. The surrounding woodland and waterside paths make it a perfect spot for a relaxing day out.

Getting there

Train

Bromley Cross is reachable from Manchester Victoria station. The trip will generally take around 25–30 minutes. The route is run every hour, or every half hour in peak times. It is a fairly scenic journey once you pass Bolton, and my preferred method of travel for this location.

Car

The local railway station does have temporary free parking. The rest of the village has some free parking and some pay and display parking.
